ANTIQUES
As a provider of antique and fine art valuation services, we are particularly well placed to identify and value antique items whether independently of or within a general business asset audit. Our principal, Ken Aston has twenty five years experience both as a dealer and valuer of antique goods and chattels, fourteen of which were spent as Head of Chattels Valuation at Christie Group PLC.
CASE STUDY
The following is an example of an item of furniture within one of our client portfolios that had incorrectly been described as:
A 1920’s mahogany card table with gilt decoration.
We independently examined this table following instruction from client and correctly identified it as:
A Regency mahogany and penwork folding card table c 1815 possibly IRISH. The hinged and swivel top with a painted gilt border and central oval depicting a ship in a storm opens to reveal a concealed counter drawer. The apron, pedestal and quatrefoil base are further decorated with penwork foliage and geometric borders. The table stands on it’s original brass and porcelain castors.
This table had previously been given a value of ‘certainly less than £200, probably about £120.’ In fact we correctly valued it at more than TEN TIMES it’s original figure. It did in fact have a retail value of £2,500! Proof positive that we at Aston Asset Valuers go the extra mile to search out and identify ANY item of an antique or collectible nature, and value it accordingly.
